Resistin, a product of the RSTN gene, is a peptide hormone belonging to the class of cysteine-rich secreted proteins which are termed the RELM family, and is also describes as ADSF (Adipose Tissue-Specific Secretory Factor) and FIZZ3 (Found in Inflammatory Zone).  Human resistin contains 108 amino acids as a pre-peptide, its hydrophobic signal peptide is cleaved before it is secreted.  Resistin circulates in human blood as a dimeric protein consisting of two 92 amino acid polypeptides, which are disulfide-linked via Cys26.

Resistin may be an important link between obesity and insulin resistance.  Mouse resistin, specifically produced and secreted by adipocytes, acts on skeletal muscle myocytes, hepatocytes and adipocytes themselves to reduce their sensitivity to insulin.  Steppan et al (2001) have suggested that resistin suppresses the ability of insulin to stimulate glucose uptake.  They also suggested that resistin is present at elevated levels in blood of obese mice, and is down regulated by fasting and antidiabetic drugs.  Way et al (2001), on the other hand, have found that resistin expression is severely suppressed in obesity and is stimulated by several antidiabetic drugs.  Other studies have shown that mouse resistin increases during the differentiation of adipocytes, but it also seems to inhibit adipogenesis.  In contrast, the human adipogenic differentiation is likely to be associated with a down regulation of resistin gene expression.

The B-Bridge mouse  Resistin ELISA Kit is designed to measure the concentration of mouse resistin in serum, plasma or tissue culture medium.

Sensitive and Specific Detection of Resistin

                   Well correlated linearity

Several dilution series were run with mouse resistin. As you can see, each dilution results in a linear and well-correlated decrease in absorbance.

B-Bridge's Mouse Resistin ELISA Kits robustly detect as little as 0.5 ng/ml of mouse resistin in serum, plasma, and culture medium. With intra-assay CVs below 5% and inter-assay CVs below 6%, the biotin-labeled antibody-based sandwich enzyme immunoassay provides reproducible results over a broad dynamic range from assay to assay.  Mouse Resistin ELISA Kits recognize natural and recombinant mouse resistin. No cross-reactivity has been observed for mouse cytokines such as RELM-α, RELM-, leptin, leptin receptor, and adiponectin.
